Location: Toronto, Canada
Website and/or Myspace: www.myspace.com/songsbyaruna
Quick One-liner Intro: Unique vocal style and music that’s a refreshing change in today’s music landscape.
Current Projects: Working on finishing up an LP.
Most Memorable Moment on Stage:
My performace opportunities have been limited so far but I hope that’ll change soon enough.
Craziest Moment With a Fan:
None yet…thankfully!
Do you get a lot of fan mail?! If so, what do you do with it?
I get a lot of positive comments on my MySpace…does that qualify? I read them and respond most of the time!
Where would you love to perform?
Just about anywhere at this time J!
Who is one mainstream producer you would do anything to work with?
I have my limits on what I do but certainly Timbaland might be an interesting experience!
How about a mainstream artist?
Chris Brown seems sweet.
Who in the South Asian scene would you like to collaborate with that you already haven’t?
Not sure…but I’m open to suggestions.
Of all the tracks you’ve recorded, which would you say is your most favorite?
I love Dollabills for the fun factor but definitely I can groove to all of them of course!
What do you think sells more: an artist’s talent or their looks?
I think ultimately if you can’t enjoy the music it doesn’t matter how good looking an artist is…so talent first but it goes a long way when you’re hot too…easy on the eyes as they say!
What are your thoughts on piracy?
Piracy is unstoppable and ultimately all music will be free and it’ll be the choice of the user to decide if they want to pay…is it fair? maybe not but that’s what it’s gonna come to and the artist will have to make their living from from concert ticket sales and merch, guest appearances and hopefully usage for television/movies/commercials.
How open do you think the mainstream community is to a South Asian voice/sound?
As South Asians become a larger part of the demographic, we will definitely have a greater presence in mainstream media and as an artist, I have to hope that my music is embraced by the mainstream audience for what it is more than for who I am or what ethnicity I belong to.
What advice do you have for those who want to make a career in music?
Be yourself and believe in yourself. Listen to your inner voice and surround yourself with people who have faith in you and are supportive and don’t wait for things to happen…get out and make it happen.
