World2008 NBA Champs – Boston Celtics

From the start of the 1st quarter till the very last second of the 4th Quarter of Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals, the Celtics were determined to win and bring the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy back to Boston, back to its rightful owners – the Celtics were in control of the entire game, playing as if they were down by 40 in the 4th Quarter, going for every lay-up, scoring every foul shot, and sinking in each three-pointer.
The 2008 Boston Celtics were crowned the 2008 NBA Champions last night as they beat the Los Angeles Lakers 131 to 92.
A hard, devoted, and passionate road to the NBA Finals begins when you least expect it. Most fans applaud July 13th, 2007 because that’s when the Celtics attained the-then Timberwolves powerhouse Kevin Garnett. But Grousbeck, Celtics Managing Partner, says that the road to the Finals began last year when Doc initiated the base last season when the Celtics fought to a 24-58 record.
Why?
Because, “Doc clearly, to me and my partners, was a winning coach. He had not been given the tools to win. He’d been given the tools to develop the young players – Al Jefferson, Rajon Rondo, Delonte West, Kendrick Perkins — into NBA starters,” Grousback asserted.
“He was perfect combination of everything,” Ray Allen said, “from treating us like men to making sure we were held accountable to days off to making sure we practiced.” If there was an award for “NBA Coach of the Year, it would go to Doc. He kept his team certain that 2008 was their year and that Boston was going all the way.
Game 6 of the 2008 NBA Finals is one that will always be remembered. Both Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen helped to pave the road to the Championship with 26 points each! Rajon Rondo, who was playing his second year as a Guard, scored 21 points, alongside is seven rebounds and eight assists! Paul Pierce, the Captain of the Celtics and the 2008 Finals MVP, scored 17 points, in addition to his 10 assists.
Pierce, who was picked by the Celtics with the 10th overall pick in the 1998 NBA Draft, waited ten years for this moment.
However, it was the amazing Boston Celtics bench who won the game because of their 35-15 2nd Quarter, practically intimidating the Lakers and silently said, “Go home L.A.!”
When the score was 116 to 81, Doc took out his starters during the last 4:01 of the 4th Quarter. This was when the lead went up to 43 because of Tony Allen’s reverse dunk making it 129 to 86.
The unthinkable was thinkable!
All I can remember from watching the post-game celebrations is Kevin Garnett saying, “Shelly you look good tonight, girl. You look good.”
No Garnett – you look good with that Championship ring on!
But with all this talk about Boston, I think we forgot about Los Angeles. Don’t worry Kobe, there’s always next year!
Congrats to the Boston Celtics for sticking through a rough and tough season, and coming out on the top at the end. You truly deserve to be given the title of 2008 NBA Finals Champions!
