A New Khan on the Block Steals the Show!

The entire “Khan-daan” along with the rest of the Bollywood film fraternity waited with bated breath to welcome their latest member, Amir Khan’s nephew, the hot-n-happening Imran Khan. Imran makes his acting debut with a fresh and cute entertainer, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na. And what an awesome debut! The movie received a thunderous opening in India and abroad. A fresh story, foot-tapping music, and good acting is all it takes to win over the hearts of movie-buffs. Jaane Tu… has it all!

Abbas Tyrewala also makes his debut, but as a director. Amir Khan and his cousin, Mansoor Khan worked on the production of the film. However, in the end, it was Imran Khan and his gang of friends that led the victory march down Bolly-town!  Their acting was fabulous, for the most part. In certain scenes where Imran Khan, who plays Jai in the film, was speaking, it felt as if he was reading his lines word-for-word from a paper. His pronunciation was a little sketchy, but his facial expressions, especially his eyes, said it all! Genelia D’Souza as Aditi came across as a very “today’s girl.” She was perfect for the role of an ill-informed, crazy, over-the-top lover, and fun-loving teenager-turned adult. But, of course, they couldn’t have accomplished much without the help of their friends, “Rotlu,” “Jiggy,” “Bombs,” and Shaleen. Their performances give a heart to the film.

The story is constructed as that of a previous Aziz Mirza film, Chalte Chalte, which starred Rani Mukherji and Shah Rukh Khan. It starts in the present with a group of friends narrating a story about two of their other friends, who in this case are Aditi and Jai. There are plenty of exciting and hilarious scenes in the film, but there are also a few sad and/or boring scenes. Well, it’s all about the balance! Tyrewala did a great job in not letting the story get too boring and dragged out, but he also kept the entertaining moments to a limit. The climax was very intense and the scenes after were extremely fun and hilarious! The scene at the airport was shot fantastically!

The surprise guests in the film, including Arbaaz Khan, Sohail Khan, Paresh Rawal, Rajat Kapoor, and Naseeruddin Shah were excellent! Paresh Rawal’s initial scene at the police station was very humorous. Rawal has a habit of leaving his audience with either a smile on their face or in splits. I was both in splits and had a smile on my face while watching this movie, especially when Paresh, Arbaaz, and Sohail appeared to deliver their special performances. Rajat Kapoor carried out his role with ease and Naseeruddin Shah impressed as the devoted warrior and patriot.

The music comes to the film’s advantage. My favorites are “Kabhi Kabhi Aditi” and “Pappu Can’t Dance Salsa.” There are a few others that grown on you after watching the film. All I have left to say is that this film is a winner, hands down! Go out and watch Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na and have a good time with your family and/or friends!!!
