The Culture Shock Trio Do it Again!
Rider University – a small homely college campus situated in Lawrenceville, New Jersey; home of the Broncs, and my home away from home. The student population is a pretty even mix of people; but the population of people that are of South Asian descent is not one of the top races here at Rider. However, there is a club based for Asian students – ASAR –Asian Students at Rider.
Every year ASAR puts together a charity show and raise money for a specific charity. This year, the student of ASAR decided to do something a little bit different. And by different, boy do I mean different! For the first time since the creation of the club, Asian Students at Rider, decided to expand their horizons and host not only a charity event, but also a concert of sorts for everyone. The executive board members of ASAR put their heads together and decided to invite the Culture Shock Trio – Baba Kahn, Sunny Brown, and Lomaticc – to come perform at their show.
So you all must be asking where I come into the mix of all of this, right? Well guys, I had the pleasure of being the President of ASAR this past school year. So not only did I help plan out the entire show and oversee that it went well, but I also spent the entire with the trio as well! That’s right; BAM was there the entire time, getting the latest scoop for all of you!
What a show it was folks!
Even before the sound-check, I knew this was going to be one incredible, unforgettable show!
I, alongside another member of the executive board, were in charge of taking care of the trio. The car ride when we went to go pick them up was in itself a crazy experience! These boys are sweethearts! They were very understanding about the show; when they were going to be performing and where they were staying. Lomaticc even reassured me that the show was going to be a huge success when my nerves kicked in and I had the case of the “jelly feet”.

Xplicit Desi Vibes has grown to become one of the most known underground production groups in the US. Founders Vimal Patel (DJ Desiplaya) and Prerak Patel (DJ P) have worked very hard to bring XDV to the status it’s at now.
Their music can be heard around the world by thousands of fans, mixing the latest of Urban tracks along with the hottest South Asian tracks. These young DJs are, without a doubt, tomorrows music elite. They have created an impressive remix of tracks and now are moving forward to promoting and producing music along side with some of the biggest up and coming South Asian artists. From linking up with IshQ Bector to Baba Kahn, Xplicit Desi Vibes has done all that AND more!
2010 marks The Final Chapter for Xplicit Desi Vibes.
DJ Desiplaya stated, “XDV went from a hobby to a passion to an international name through the hard work of our team and the support from all our fans. Without them, we wouldn’t have reached the level of success that we’re at now. Our mixtapes have over 50K downloads and people are always waiting for the next release. It’s been a great ride. It’s sad to see XDV releasing The Final Chapter, but who knows, maybe a few years from now, we’ll make a big return with a huge bang!”
So the question at hand is: What will happen once The Final Chapter releases? Who knows, but in the meantime, you can check out the first single to release from their last mixtape. The track is called Desi Love [DJ Desiplaya featuring Snoop Dogg & Deevani].
The mixtape is set to release this summer, so be ready to have some new jams to bump in the car while you’re headed to the beach or taking that long road trip across…

Now I’m a big music fan! I love it all. And if you don’t admit to dancing around your room to a favorite song, you’re a liar (haha)! Well, I’ll be the first to admit, I’ve done it! And ‘2 Step Bhangra’ is my jam! MTL’s The Bilz & Kashif have become a household name in the music industry and are making international waves! I recently had the chance to sit down with them and discuss current projects and much more! Check it out!
Tell us a little bit about your latest album ‘Breaking Barriers’?
This is a brand spanking new album. It’s a follow up to our last self-titled album that featured 2 Step Bhangra. Breaking Barriers is what fans have been waiting for in a long time, and trust me you can probably call it the “greatest hits” album (laughs). It’s also a musical masterpiece that’s necessary for the music industry right now. Tons of live instruments, a lot of electro pop sounds with a touch of Bollywood. We’ve put in so much time, sweat and effort to make this an outstanding album. You will see a lot of tracks that feature Master-D on the Hindi & Punjabi vocals while Kashif does his magic in English and Vicious does a few rap features too – it’s definitely Breaking Barriers.
You’ve faced their fair share of challenges, which served as the inspiration for their latest single, “Against All Odds.” Do you mind sharing with us some of these challenges?
This industry is full of challenges but the concept of Against All Odds that drops worldwide on iTunes on November 23rd along with the video premiere on Desihits.com, is about how we’ve all worked so hard to get at this level of success. One of…

A picture is worth a thousand words.
Sure we have all heard of that phrase, but how many of us really live by it? That’s right, not a lot of us do. But hey, it’s understandable. We all have busy lives, who has time to take pictures all the time? One person that who does make time in his buys life for pictures is Tapan Patel. This guy lives and breathes photography! His passion has paid off big time! Tapan is an astounding photographer! His photography skills caused my jaw to drop and being a professional photographer as well, it is easier for me to pick out flaws in pictures. To my eye Tapan’s pictures are absolutely flawless. He manages to capture the most beautiful of scenes, whether they are still life photos or of live subjects, Tapan manages to bring a sense of tranquility to the picture; it’s almost as if the picture came to life.
I personally had the chance to sit down with him and have a one-on-one, heart-to-heart chat with him. So what can I say to describe him for you guys? Hmmm…
HARDWORKING: Tapan has only been in the professional photography industry for about a year now and he has already accomplished one of his biggest goals out there. That’s right folks, Mr. Tapan J. Patel was right there beside myself and the lovely Miss Tirusha Dave taking fashion photos of the models at the one and only, oh-so-famous Couture Fashion Show! Not only was he there, but he was, and I kid you not when I say this, he was actually lying down on his side taking pictures!
DETERMINED: For someone to go from being an ordinary, everyday Joe-Schmoe to professional photographer, Tapan has really make photography his passion. Everywhere he…

“Baby are you down down, down, down, down…”
It’s amazing how quickly that line caught everyone’s attention and became one of the most popular songs in such a short amount of time. The credit goes to none other than Jay Sean. This talented 28 year old has done it again, once again coming out with a super hit song that is on the tip of everyone’s tongue.
Released on May 31, 2009 “Down” instantly became a popular hit song jumping the charts from #60 to #6 in just two weeks! On iTunes “Down” went from entry level on the charts to the #2 song! This is a phenomenal feat but it is no surprise. Let’s be honest, Jay Sean has created nothing short of outstanding music.
With hit songs such as “Stolen” and “Eyes on You” it was no shock that Jay Sean would once again WOW the world with his melodic voice. I had the lifetime of the opportunity to sit down and talk with Cash Money’s recently signed artist and it was nothing short of fun, fun, fun (ok…I need to stop singing things to the tune of ‘Down’)!
Currently you are signed to Cash Money Records. Before getting signed you knew of other artists who were part of the label. Did you ever think that you’d be in the studio with Lil Wayne and recording a song together?
Of course not…when people say ‘did you think’ and ‘did you do that’ you really don’t ever think that it would happen…I think the fact that it happened to me it was a moment where I went ‘what is going on?’

Shoplifting, the art of taking merchandise from a store without paying for it, or if I put it in blunt terms; it’s stealing. Lately, shoplifting has gotten easier and easier. Even though store owners put up security cameras to monitor what is going on throughout the entire store, people still manage to successfully steal. The greatest advantage for shoplifting is for young shoplifters.
Yup, teenage boys and girls have now entered the world of petty crimes.
Teenagers have it easy when it comes to stealing. Many kids walk into stores after school. They can easily stuff merchandise into their backpacks and purses. Large pocketbooks and huge handbags are the latest craze. Young girls can easily pretend to be looking for something in their purse and slip products in. Large handbags are not the only things that have become popular today; baggy clothing has also become popular as well. Boys like to wear baggy pants with lots of pockets. These pockets provide places for small items to hide away from the store clerk’s sight.
The generation of tomorrow has a lot of potential. Let’s just hope, for the sake of all store owners that the future of tomorrow uses their talents for something OTHER than shoplifting.

Sex sells.
There’s no lie about that.
Advertising and sex have been tied together since advertising became a big business. The use of sexually suggestive images to sell just about everything really emphasizes the point that sex is a merchandiser’s best friend.
One of the most popular ways of advertising is through magazines. Famous clothing companies and makeup companies use magazines as a perfect way to sell their products. However, advertisements are getting more and more erotic. Nowadays it is getting near impossible to find an advertisement that does not have a double meaning.
Now when it comes to using sex to sell, Victoria’s Secret is #1 at marketing and branding their merchandise because of sex. I don’t think we even need to prove that with an image, but just for all you guys out there, this is what their normal catalog covers look like – yes, you’d be incline to buy something from there for your girl, hoping, that she’ll look at sexy as the cover model…Hmmm….

Ladies and gentlemen, let me introduce you to Nisha Kataria. Trust me when I say this folks, there is a lot of talent packed into this young diva. Born on May 9, 1986, this young superstar has not even celebrated her 24th birthday and she is already so well known across the world. She was first recognized at the tender age of three when this outgoing child would perform in front of anyone. Yes you heard right; this vivacious little superstar never passed up an opportunity to perform. What a ham.

So late this evening, I had no intention of writing this article, but I got an immediate text from my Editor-In-Chief, and it was a 911 priority! We had to be one of the first to give you all this exclusive!
You know that everyone is on the Bollywood-tip — whether it’s musically, fashionably, or just straight up stepping into a Bollywood movie — people want in on what India has to offer!
Now let’s take a trip down memory lane. For all my Disney fans out there [and don't lie, you know you watch some shows on there
]…do you remember the Bollywood-inspired ‘Cheetah Girls: One World’ India special? Not only were the clothes they were amazing, but also their dance steps were one of a kind too! I think you know where I’m headed with this!
So now that you’re thinking…do you remember back in the 2009 Oscars there was a lavish presentation of Bollywood & Hollywood together? Musical masters John Legend and A.R. Rahman shared the stage together, alongside Bollywood dancers, dholi’s and much more!
Well that lovely dance sequence was choreographed by none other than, Rujuta Vaidya!
