RDB & Nindy Kaur performing at Shilpa Shetty & Raj Kundra's wedding receptionInternationally acclaimed group, RDB (Kuly, Manj, Surj & Nindy Kaur( have had nothing less than an epic year. When taking their first steps in Bollywood with tracks as Rafta Rafta and Singh is King, these artists have soared to unimaginable heights.

2009 started off with a bang as Nindy Kaur was introduced to Bollywood with two tracks, Aloo Chaat and Boliyaan. Both became instant favorites to fans across the world, especially in India, as these tracks were featured by a few performers on the show ‘Boogie Woogie.’ With the success of their music in ‘Aloo Chaat,’ it was understood that more was to come from this unmatched group. Following Aloo Chaat, their next major hit was Om Mangalam, from the film, ‘Kambaqtht Ishq.’ The track was featured in all the movie promos across the world and landed the #1 position on many Bollywood music charts as well. And if three songs wasn’t enough, RDB have ended the year with one last Bollywood project; they re-composed their worldwide hit, Paisa, for Akshay Kumar’s latest film, ‘De Dana Dan,’ featuring Manak-E. The track has become so successful that it’s held the #1 spot for the past five weeks.

Aside from their Bollywood projects, RDB and Nindy Kaur have been traveling the world, performing for thousands of fans in the US, Canada, UK, Dubai, and India, to say the least. They’ve even took over some of the largest theme parks in the US, over the summer, as RDB & Nindy Kaur were touring, giving away CDs, and meeting their fans.  When asked about this experience, Manj stated, “It was great performing in front of all the crowds at the theme parks; plus we got to go on the rides too, haha!”

If you ever thought that a game show couldn’t help you fall in love, then you were wrong. Directors Danny Boyle (28 Days Later) and Loveleen Tandan (Brick Lane, Vanity Fair, and Monsoon Wedding) have brought it upon themselves that love is possible in anyway which you desire. Slumdog Millionaire is the story of how impoverished Indian teen Jamal Malik (Dev Patel) became a contestant on the Hindi version of “Who Wants to be A Millionaire?” It becomes an attempt made without prize money in mind, rather, an effort to prove his love for his friend Latika (Frieda Pinto), who is an ardent fan of the show.

Frieda Pinto is beautiful and charismatic as she takes on the screen and personifies love. In between press conferences at the Toronto International Film Festival and promotions for her new film, I had a chance to sit down with this up-coming actress and I have two words for the rest of Hollywood: Watch Out!

Her bio quotes her as a “stylish singer, songwriter and actress,” and she’s nothing less than these three! She was also handpicked by actor Bill Cosby to star alongside him in a TV commercial for Jell-O at the age of six. Oh, did I fail to mention that she also landed a role in the hit movie, “Batman Begins,”?

Yes, I’m talking about the one and only, Karen David, herself!

Born in Shillong – at the foot of the Himalayas – and raised in Toronto, Karen David can be coined as “ever-alluring,” and she’s never let herself be restricted or controlled by such things as ‘boundaries.’ She’s crossed hurdles, strived to prove she can be the best, and shinned in front of Hollywood and Bollywood greats.

One of Karen’s noteworthy moments, as an actress, came when she landed a supporting role in the acclaimed film, “Provoked”, alongside the actress Aishwarya Rai. This put her in the limelight with personalities in the Bollywood film industry, and the soundtrack for the film had her working with one of the best composers to come out of India, A.R. Rahman; together they wrote and recorded “Alive”, the theme song that personifies the quintessence of Kiranjit Ahluwalia’s story.

Recently Karen finished filming Universal Studios’ prequel, “The Scorpion King: Rise of the Akkadian”, in Cape Town, South Africa. It’s in this movie she plays the spirited, aggressive, and beautiful ‘Layla.’ The film is directed by Russell Mulcahy, and she co-stars opposite Michael Copon (One Tree Hill), Randy Couture, and Simon Quarterman.

Fall of 2008 makes the release of this film, her second EP, and an album release! It’s been a journey in the making, and I had the chance to sit down with Karen and talk about her past, present, and…
