Goa Marriott ResortAfter the wedding festivities and the guests have left, the one thing any couple looks forward to is their honeymoon! With wedding season on the rise, we thought it would be good to share some top honeymoon choices that we came across! Get your bathing suits and sunglasses ready…oh, and don’t forget to book your tickets and hotel room too!

And no two honeymoons are the same. Some couples might like to spend an entire week soaking in the sun on the beach, while another couple might want to travel the safari with wild animals. Personality plays the most important part rather than tradition.

RajStar (a/k/a Raj Makhija) is a freelance music producer, composer, sound engineer, songwriter and musician based out of New York and Mumbai. He has been called the “next big movement” from America, with a fresh sound described as Timbaland meets AR Rahman.

RajStar was always involved with music growing up in New Jersey around a musical family as his mother sang in a traditional Indian style and his father played Tabla, an Indian percussion instrument. In addition to this, playing bass guitar and guitar in and out of school bands (i.e. marching band, jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, out of school jazz programs, etc.) gave him a unique blend of musical sensibilities. He became interested in recording and composing music in the 7th grade when he bought himself a 4-track cassette recorder and began making songs.

Photo Courtesy: The Bilz & KashifSo its like day 9 here in Mumbai. You must be wondering what happened on Day 1 and 2. Well we were seriously jet lagged. We took a flight from Montreal to JFK. From there, we flew to Dubai straight on a 12 hr flight. Now that was crazy, although the airline is amazing! We got footage so don’t worry about that. Stay tuned on Youtube, lol. But we watched soo many movies, felt like a judging committee for the Oscars! We then landed in Mumbai, and god dyam, talk about traffic and straight to our condo/hotel. I know New York has traffic but these guys have skills! That’s all I can tell you!

So on Oct 7th it was Kashif’s birthday, so we celebrated in style, we went to McDonald’s! The menu is really desi friendly. Saturday, we headed over to China nightclub, and wow was it nice. Music was mostly house and the hiphop selection was alright! Girls were blazin’ that’s all I can tell you. Rocky S (the Indian fashion design who did Pussycat Doll’s outfit) came through and so did Hard Kaur. Now back to day 9, we’ve been all over Mumbai, thank god for our SUV driver with A/C. Its amazing to see the contrast of rich and poor here, but recently there’s been a big rise for the middle class. We’ve just been through meetings and more meetings for movies with Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek, Karan Johar films it’s just been nuts. So keep it locked, we’ll send you more love from Mumbai, and for now, make sure you guys go and vote for our Sean Kingston remix!

Indian weddings are no longer what they used to be five, ten, or even fifteen years ago. In today’s generation and generations to come, Indian weddings are now looked upon as a thriving business, as well as, commodity. From the day you go to pick out your invitations till the day you return from your honeymoon, every business from A to Z is flourishing with crazed wedding planners, nervous brides, excited grooms, and their long-lost family members. Years ago when attending an Indian wedding, you would never see a “wedding planner;” however, the business of ‘event planners’ has now dipped into that of wedding planners and they are in quite a high demand – and it’s undoubtedly the most popular business of them all.

The idea of outsourcing is popular to American corporations. When you call, for example, for computer assistance, you’re quickly connected to a representative in India. But who would have ever thought that one day India would become an outsourcing hub for people to have their baby. Yes, now more and more people are turning to India for surrogate mothers.

Photo Courtesy: Sana IdnaniIn between college-campus visits, Senior Prom planning and mid-terms, 18-year old Sana Idnani was able to fit the Miss Teen New York pageant into her scheduled as she was crowned the 2008 Miss Teen New York. Sana Idnani made history on the 25th anniversary of the Miss Teen New York contest as she was the first ever Sindhi crown holder. Miss Teen New York, a contest which dates back to 1983, has been an important segment in every teenage girl’s life. It is this contest which allows them to move forward to the Miss Teen USA pageant, representing their state on a National level. Sana stands out from the rest of the past Crown holders because she is the first South Asian-Indian to ever have been given this prestigious title.

The first ever Miss USA competition was won by Jackie Loughery, also a New York-native. The first Miss Teen USA contest was also won by a Miss Teen New York, Ruth Zakarian, who eventually paved her path towards Hollywood. Shauna Cambill won the Miss New York USA crown in 1999 and went to win the Miss USA crown at the national pageant and later took part in the Miss Universe contest. With such an extensive list of past winners and their accomplishments, it’s up to Sana to represent her community, as well as, Sindhi culture, on a national level as she competes against 49 other young, intelligent and beautiful girls for the title of Miss Teen USA.

In between shopping at Sephora in Times Square, Sana and I stopped for some coffee and we talked about her road to ‘the crown,’ her Sindhi heritage and much more!
