Her musical stimulus as a child has been colourful with artists including Madonna and Cyndi Lauper through to Aaliyah, Gwen Stefani and Linkin Park shaping her creative output today. She is of Sri Lankan descent; the multi-talented performer tried her hand at a gamut of instruments including the piano, flute, violin, guitar and drums but settled at her voice as first choice.

To add to that, she was vocally coached by Kim Chandler (a backing vocalist for Michael Jackson and P. Diddy), Kazz performed for audiences at The Royal Albert Hall through to a solo at Disneyland Paris, and was also a member of an all Asian girl band. However, the girl band was to last only a short time before they split and Kazz went on to University to study BSc Multimedia Technology and Design.

She’s hot, sexy, and has one hell of a voice! Bravura Artist had the chance to sit down with this UK superstar to find out what’s happening in the life of Kazz!

Photo Courtesy: Soul Tap RecordsIt’s very rare that we come across artists from our community who are talented enough to land a deal with a mainstream American record label. Nonetheless, two artists – Nivla and Parag Oberoi – stood proud, and against the odds, showcasing their fusion of Hip-Hop and Punjabi lyrics – captivating not just the Desi listener, but even the American ears!

Many were surprised when they turned on the Fox 5 morning news one day in January and saw Soul Tap Records recording artist Nivla rapping, “My Gujaratis, Punjabis, and all my Sindhis turn it out right…fellow Malayalees reppin’ hard for the South side… parties, we rockin’ ‘em, me and Parag and ‘em, Soul Tap run sh-t ain’t no stoppin’ ‘em“, followed by P. Oberoi’s sultry Punjabi vocals, “Ho ni mein jhoot boleya, koi na, ni mein kuffer toleya, koi na kaadi vi dil todeya, koi na, bai koi na.”

Question: Who are Nivla and P. Oberoi and what’s the hype behind these two boys?

Photo Courtesy: J. Grant Ball, 2008While trying to write up this interview, I felt that everything comedian, Rasika Mathur, had to say was a great read. To sparingly use a few lines here and there didn’t feel like I would be doing justice to Mathur as a comedian because everything that Mathur had to say was like a tasty morsel of humor. Many know the Indian comedian from Nick Cannon’s “Wild N Out” show on MTV, which she has been on since 2005. However, it took a lot of perseverance, hard work, and, of course, talent, before people had the chance to be enthralled with the lovely Rasika Mathur.
