Sureet Sandhu aka the face behind Digital Desi Productions is one of most respected names in the South Asian urban music scene. Ever since he started off his mixtapes titled “Renegades,” he’s crossed into international borders and has worked with some of the finest names in the US and UK.

Sureet was the first South Asian producer from the US to be recognized by the BBC Asian Network over in London with his track “Let Go,” featuring Sir Aah. Since then, Sureet has become a steady name over on the BBC radio, having been play-listed by some of the top hosts such as Adil Ray, Bobby Friction, and Nihal.

Sureet is a man known to be creative and he shows that not only in his different production style, but also through the projects he releases. Recently Sureet produced UK-based MC Seminar’s debut EP titled, “Digital War,” which can be found on iTunes. I had the chance to sit down with Sureet and gave him sixty seconds to tell us all we need to know!

Sureet, you’re in the hot seat today and you have 60 seconds to spill the beans about a few things which are on my mind! You’re time starts now! Where did the name “Digital Desi Productions” come from?
My wife came up with the name because I’m always making music digitally on the computer and because I’m a Desi

What was the first track of yours which truly established the DDP-brand?
‘Let’s Go’ ft Sir Aah was the first track I got play-listed on the BBC by The Punjabi Hit Squad back in 2003. That’s when I knew I was on to something!

The “Digital War” EP, which I need to plug is currently out on iTunes, is a collaboration between your…

When I sat to write this piece, honestly, it was agonizing; I was given a task – pick eight stand-out artists from the South Asian music scene and at the same time, not seem bias – trust me, it was a very difficult task! From the USA, into Canada, to the UK, and dipping into India, I narrowed my list down to eight contenders, who have proved they are “the best of the best.” We have singers, rappers, and producers – all who allow their forte to shine the brightest in today’s South Asian music scene.

We start our journey in Orlando, Florida, where rapper Ajaxxx is on a mission to release four CDs in one year – a feat which many artists have tried, but failed at. He’s is one of the most intense MCs we have in today’s Desi music scene and definitely has ‘something to prove’ to all his listeners! Ajaxxx has three internationally-released CDs: “It’s About Time,” “Something to Prove Promo,” and “The Set-Up.” With three more CDs in the works, Ajaxxx is determined to make his music known to the rest of the world. However, CDs and TV commercials aren’t the only thing which is bringing Ajaxxx to the top. He’s also been featured in internationally published magazines, and I don’t mean Canada – international meaning Hong Kong and India! It’s also important to note that Ajaxxx was one of ten finalists, in a recent “Rap Against Violence” contest – and the only South Asian winner. His song, “Walk With You” was featured on a non-profit CD and played on the top hip-hop radio stations across the state of Florida. Keeping that in mind, how many artists can you name who’ve had a TV commercial air…

Sureet Sandhu is a familiar name to the South Asian music industry in the US. He’s the first Desi producer from the US to be recognized by the BBC Asian Network for his production styles and collabos with US-based artists. He’s known for his monstrous mixtape series, “Renegades: Desi Hip-Hop Revolution.” He’s no stranger when it comes to huge collaborations and crazy projects! Recently Sureet teamed up with UK-based rapper Seminar – fresh new British Asian artist…rapper, songwriter, and producer, all rolled into one! Hailing from Slough, and is quite simply a BREATHE OF FRESH AIR. He’s ready to take the industry by storm by the release of his DEBUT project DIGITAL WAR the EP produced by Sureet Sandhu of Digital Desi Productions. Co-production also includes J-Doug and Seminar himself.

I’m quite excited to say that I’m the first who had the chance to chat with both Sureet and Seminar before the release of this highly anticipated EP! Jokes aside, these two are serious when it comes to music! They’ve put in months towards production, writing, and recording, and finally have a finished product to take over the Desi music scene with! Seminar has been writing since he was 12 years old, winning many writing and poetry competitions in and around the Berkshire area and also having a Children’s Book written by him published! He never really took or even thought about rapping or producing until he started at the university in 2002 – this is where he started playing around in the studio facility at his university and then began to write his own lyrics whilst rapping over mainstream beats. To his surprise and people around him, he was actually good. From there, the rest is history!

Like I said, I had the chance to talk to these two and people, this is…

Having made headlines with his Renegades series of mixtapes, Maryland-based producer Sureet Sandhu of Digital Desi Productions is ready to take music to another level. He’s working with U.K.-based rapper Seminar on an original album titled, “Digital War.” Not only is “Digital War” original production by Sureet, but Seminar has also collaborated with a few familiar names for this project as well!

In celebration of this new album, we’re proud to announce the release of the first single titled “Dekho,” featuring the heavy lyrical skills of U.K. based rapper Seminar alongside the charming and attractive vocals of their publicist?!

Yes, you read that right!

Not only is “Dekho” the first track to be released off this highly-anticipated album, but it’s also the first song which Sureet has produced to feature original Hindi vocals.
“I see him look, and I want him. I know it’s wrong, but it feels right,” leads right into the Hindi hook, “Dekho mere maan mein kya hai, Dekho mere dil main kya hai,” sung by, yes, their publicist. Seminar then raps, “I wanna know what’s in your heart, I wanna know what’s on your mind.

Track Name: Jaan
Artists: Pakman feat. Sir Aah
Produced By: Sureet Sandhu (Digital Desi Productions)

Internationally known producer Sureet Sandhu, of Digital Desi Productions, has created an impressive resume of production for artists not only in the U.S., but also internationally in the U.K. and Canada. He’s been labeled as a pioneer in the South Asian music industry as his mixtapes have touched every corner of the world and created waves with his exciting and unique production style. Having worked with some of the best names in the Urban South Asian music industry, Sureet is on a mission to bring-forth the best talent to emerge from our community. Having created Digital Desi Productions with the mind-set to help upcoming artists attain a platform to showcase their skills, Sureet Sandhu is now working with some of the freshest and hottest talent in today’s South Asian urban music industry.

With the success of Sureet’s latest mixtape, Renegades III: Desi Hip-Hop Revolution, two names associated with this phenomenal project are Pakarm and Sir Aah. With the long-lasting success of Renegades III, Pakarm and Sir Aah have got a jump-start on what looks like the start of Renegades IV, as they collaborated with Sureet to create the final outcome of what they’ve titled, “Jaan.” Along side the outstanding rapping skills of Sir Aah, you’ll find that Pakman takes a break from rapping and ingeniously sings the hook of this song. With an electrifying beat to add to the superior vocals, there’s no doubt that this track isn’t a banger!

“Sureet is a very noble guy and his work is outstanding,” asserts rapper Pakman, “without him most of our real talented Desi’s would still be unheard, but thanks to Sureet, he made a different and we thank him. If there was an award for ‘The King of Mixtapes,’ I would…

One Signata Nach is a fresh-faced artist known to bring forth an eclectic range of genre-shattering music and is acclaimed for being a true solo artist who writes, performs and produces the whole package of nearly all the killer tracks in his repertoire. Transcending a status as the socially conscious Desi Hip-Hop anomaly, One Signata Nach has already made international waves and is ready to take on those who think that there’s no room for One!

As for the track: Ears perk from the moment one presses play and the enchanting “Been Lost” experience is born. When the beat pours in, the listener starts to get ‘lost‘ inside the song’s hypnotic rhythm and then submerged within the hauntingly sung lyrics that blaze through the speakers: “I’ve been lost, for a long, long time”

Justice cannot be given to a track such as “Been Lost” by a few words used to describe the tempo, the beat, and the lyrical style of One Signata Nach. If you want to know why everyone believes that he is an amazing lyricist and a necessary element in the South Asian hip hop industry, then you’re going to have to download the track, take a listen and accept that he is the One!

Track Name: It Was Written
Artist: Young Pharaoh
Produced By: Sureet Sandhu & P.Nox Productions

As a key figure in the creation and popularization of urban South Asian music, a style of Rap & Hip-Hop music characterized with South Asian sounds such as the dhol and tumbi, Sureet Sandhu – of Digital Desi Productions – was the first South Asian producer from the US to make waves on the BBC Asian Network and his relationship with the Network has flourished ever since – helping other artists attain radio play and exposing their name as they never thought possible.Sureet Sandhu of Digital Desi Productions has collaborated with NJ-based powerhouse P.Nox Productions and their fiery MC, Young Pharaoh. The end result: It Was Written.

Producer Sureet says that the beat is a mix of “hip-hop on a conscious tip.” Continuing that the beat is also quite, “melodic and emotional, which I think is portrayed by the acoustic guitar riff. The drums are mainly arranged using “can” sounds, which gives it that sense of rawness.”

As powerful as the beat it’s self is, Young Pharaoh portrays and depicts true emotion just through the chorus of the song which is, “Sometimes the bad guy wins and the good die young, life is like a test, judgment day gonna come, it was written, whether pain or love, no excuse for the actions, only God can judge…”

Young Pharaoh uses “It Was Written” as a canvas to lyrically paint three different stories, and exposes the hardships which people have to face in their lives: a girl who spends her nights at the threshold of others; a man who wants to avenge his sisters’ death; finally, a man who was locked up in Guantanamo Bay. Young Pharaoh raps about the “power for the strugglin’” while painting a picture of “tears for the dead,”…
